Description

Portrait of a man in oriental dress with a fez and embroidered gown, full-length seated with his right hand on the handle of a weapon tucked into his waistband, looking to right towards a similarly-dressed boy who holds a hookah pipe for him, a woman holding a child behind to left and view of a city beyond, only the boy's figure filled out fully. Hand-coloured lithograph printed in grey and beige.

Inscription

Lettered in the image, as hand-written in ink by the painter, with the title, signature and date: 'D Wilkie 1840.'
