Description

Contents: "Watercolour of Stroud, New South Wales, viewed from the town gate that was located at the southern end of the town. The view is looking north up present day Berkeley Street. The church of St. John, erected in 1833, is on the left, and there is figure on horseback in foreground. Stroud became the headquarters for the Australian Agricultural Company in the 1820s."
Biographical History: Robert Hoddle visited Stroud in 1840 to see his daughter whose husband was employed by the Australian Agricultural Company. Hoddle’s sister also lived nearby at Tanilba, Port Stephens.
