Description

When this watercolor was acquired in 1907, it was thought to have been painted by John Robert Cozens, an attribution later discounted. Recently, similarities to watercolors in English collections have indicated Joseph Barber as its author. Barber was Birmingham's first drawing master, taught David Cox, and painted views Wales, the likely location of the mountain lake depicted here. Medium: watercolor.
