Description

Probably a depiction of St. Denis carrying his head after his execution (c.275), and after the T-square representing his skill as a builder (church on the island in the Seine). St. Thomas the Apostle is the saint more often associated with the T. square but traditionally he suffered martyrdom in India, being pierced by a lance (no iconography of a beheading).
