Description

Watercolour illustration commissioned by William Roxburgh. ROX1448.
In his 'Flora Indica', Roxburgh describes this species as a shrub, native of the interior parts of Bengal. It flowers during the rains, and the seed ripens during November and December. Roxburgh also observes: 'It differs from 'G. pilosa', in being polygamous, and the nuts being one-celled. It is also nearly allied to my 'G. tomentosa', the best distinguishing mark is the male flowers in this species.'
