This watercolour shows a group of men from Valletta preparing to clamber up a pile of branches festooned with meat and other foodstuffs. They'd pick up what they could while racing to the top where the winner could also get a bag of coins. 'The Kukkanja' contest was once a popular event in the Malta Carnival.
