Callow RWS. | 1812-1908 | Ship-Building 1841"; inscribed in pen, with black ink, on support mat, lower right: "In March 1841 Callow left Paris and | settled in England. In the autumn of 1841 | he made a sketching tour with C Bentley | in Normandy. Visiting St. Malo. [Aurarches?], | Cader, Havre, Dieppe. | I think one drawing was made on the | English coast, possibly at or near New Haven | (or Shoreham district) before he left for Normandy. | Martin Hardie".
