Description

Watercolour illustration commissioned by William Roxburgh. ROX1478.
In his 'Flora Indica', Roxburgh describes this annual species as an erect, ramous and smooth plant, with pendulous siliques. He also writes: 'From Nepal, where the plant is cultivated, Dr Buchanan sent seeds to the Botanic garden at Calcutta in 1802, where the plants thrive luxuriantly, and blossom and ripen their seeds during the cold season.'
