Description

This drawing shows the ruins of Coldingham Priory, Berwickshire, which is located in the Scottish Borders, very close to the North Sea coast. The name of the artist has not been included. Edgar, King of Scots, probably founded the church at Coldingham in or around 1098. The church quickly evolved into a priory, inhabited by monks of St Cuthbert from Durham, Northumbria. As with so many of Scotland's church buildings, Coldingham Priory suffered during the Scottish Reformation.
