Description

A Mason bee on wood, shown with pupa and caterpillar. According to the artist's notes 'The Mason fly, called here Dirt dauber, builds their cells of dirt to the top of ceilings, roofs and rafters, filling them entirely with spiders. They have a wonderful faculty provided them by nature to sting them, making them nearly motionless, but like Enchantment not depriving them of life, that they may not rot before the maggot acquires its full growth. Spun up in a thin case 12th June, bred 25th.'
