Representation of John Wantley (died 1424), from a brass and enamel plate in Amberley Church, Sussex, study for plate 116 of Stothard's 'The Monumental Effigies of Great Britain', published by Mrs Anna Eliza Bray, 1817-32, one of a large group of studies for this volume; male figure, turned to front, with hands held in attitude of prayer, and wearing a tabard with heraldic bearings, and armour, underfoot a lion, and inscribed "hic jacet johes Wantele, qui obiit [. ]". 1814.
