Description
A bay full of ships, surrounded by hills, soldiers marching across a pontoon bridge in the middle ground, with town buildings lining the quay, stalls at the foot of the city walls on the left side, a fortified wall descending from the cliff-top towards the water in the background on the left; after Henry Smith. 1813. Hand-coloured aquatint.

Lettered below the image with the title, a dedication to 'the Marquis Wellesley K.G. &c. &c. &c. This View of Oporto, upon its evacuation by Marshal Soult, before Marquis Wellington, in the Campaign of 1809' from 'Robert Daubeny King, Late Lieutenant, Royal Fusiliers.', with a crest bearing the motto 'Purro Dei Necessarium' and 'Henry Smith, Esqr. delt. / M.
