Caption: "Interior of the ruins of Tintern Abbey these elegant remains of light gothic architecture are displayed in beautiful & impressive perspective. This monastery is situated on the Wye sequested & surrounded by wooded heights, it was well suited to that religious contemplations which it gloomed cloisters raised by the zeal & piety of distant periods inspired.This Abbey was founded A.D. 1131 by Walter de Clare for Cistertian monks & dedicated to St Mary. After him Gilbert Strongbow, Earl of Pembroke became its patron. Monmouthshire"
