Description
Arthur Elwes, brother to Susan, was in the Officer Cadets at Dartmouth. This picture depicts 'HMS Prince of Wales (1860)'. In 1869, she was renamed HMS Britannia and became a stationary training ship for officer cadets on the River Dart. In this capacity, she replaced 'HMS Britannia (1820)' which had been moored in Dartmouth as a residential barracks from 1863 until her breaking up in 1869.
