Description

Shows the rapids leaving the lake, at Frankton, the outlet of the Kawerau River. There is a three-storey mill building with a waterwheel attached on the water's edge at the right. In the left background, on the other side of the rapids is a group of farm buildings, belonging to the farm owned by W G Rees between 1862 and 1867.

The mill at right has been identified as Robertson and Hallenstein's Brunswick mill (see F G W Miller's "Golden days of Lake Country" (Christchurch, 1961), page 112 (ATL 993.1 MILL).
