Description
Sunnyside, Tarrytown, New York. One year after the death of Washington Irving, who purchased and rebuilt it in 1835-36. View from southeast. The two young women sitting on the lawn in foreground are probably nieces. John Henry Hill made two etchings of this composition: the first published in Sketches from Nature, about 1867, pl. 16; the second, dated 1884, in his book, John William Hill: An Artist’s Memorial, New York, 1888, pl. 4. Medium: Watercolour over graphite on paper.
