Description

This is a sketch of a chapel in Udny, Aberdeenshire 'by Mr Grimm'. It shows what seems to be the front wall and entrance of a ruined chapel. Two people are sitting on the grass outside the chapel, looking towards a ruined castle on a hill in the distance. The sketch is not dated. Udny is a hamlet in Aberdeenshire, located about nine kilometres west of the town of Ellon. The chapel and castle of Udny were the earliest known buildings in the settlement, the castle dating from the fifteenth century. The castle depicted in this sketch may be Udny Castle, but it is more likely to be Tolquhoun Castle, a larger castle built nearby for the Forbes family in the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries.
