A watercolour showing a view of Lochnagar. Continued on RCIN 980029.ah verso. Lochnagar is shown in the background with a Highland hill shown in the foreground, sloping down from the right. Inscribed below: Loch Nagar [sic] from the Peat Road Oct: 1 - 1852.
While staying at Balmoral Queen Victoria made many expeditions to local beauty spots. On 1 October 1852 the Queen accompanied her husband Prince Albert on a deer stalking trip. In her journal entry of that day, Queen Victoria describes how they drove up the Peat Road where the "hills never looked more beautiful, so bright & clear, — Loch Nagar covered with snow".
