Description

Although born in Nottingham, Bonington spent most of his life in France. Despite his short working life, he had a huge influence on a whole generation of painters working on both sides of the channel from the 1820s. This fine mature example of his watercolour style came to the Gallery through the Friends of the Whitworth in 1946.
