Description

1 drawing on grey paper : graphite, watercolor, and opaque white. | Drawing shows Niagara Falls from the American side looking toward Horseshoe Falls on the Canadian side, from the vantage point of Biddles Stairs. Wallis was a British Commissioner from the Foreign Office to the United States in 1853.

TWW Comment

Nicholas Biddle constructed Biddle Stairs in 1827. They allowed visitors to descend from the top of Goat Island to the base of the gorge, with small viewing portals offering views from different heights. It was demolished in 1927.
