Description

Upper body portrait of a seated man with brown hair and side whiskers. Thought to be Canon William Selwyn 1806-1875. However this is not certain.

Originally assumed to be Bishop George Augustus Selwyn. However the facial features here differ from those of the engraved portrait of Selwyn after a drawing by Richmond. In 1849, Selwyn was in New Zealand, not in England and Richmond, a London artist, is not known to have visited New Zealand.
