Description
A manual titled 'The Horticultural Repository containing Delineations of the best Varieties of the different Species of English Fruits.'by George Brookshaw on 17 different fruits (Apple, Apricot, Cherry, Cob-Nut, Currant, Fig, Filbert, Gooseberry, Grape, Melon, Nectarine, Peach, Pear, Pine, Plum, Raspberry, Strawberry) and their various sorts; 96 pages of text interspersed with 47 plates, the illustrations on the left fronting the letterpress on the right; most of the plates with two images of fruit, some shown with their blossoms and leaves, some halved revealing pulp and pits; bound in original black-leather binding with tool-gilded ornamental frame on front and back cover, and also with tool-gilded title and further ornaments on spine. 1823. Letterpress, stipple, etching, printed in green or brown ink, hand-coloured with watercolour and some bodycolour.
