Plate 38: a St. Pancras volunteer, standing in the prime and load position, holding gun in both hands; in full uniform including feathered hat. 1798. Etching, aquatint, and hand-colouring, with gold.
Inscription
Lettered with title at top left, and below figure "Prime & Load 7th motion", and the lines "Directly the motion is given face a little to the left, at the same time bringing the Butt with the right hand a trifle behind the left hip. The firelock turns in the left hand, and is placed by the left in a nearly perpendicular position". With production detail "Rowlandson Delin / London Pub Augt 20 1798 at Ackermanns Gallery No. 101 Strand". At top right "No 38"
