Description

As in his painting of the Morning Ride on the Beach (Gallery 1.18), Mauve shows the riders from behind. They are trotting away from the viewer in that silent wood. In the watercolour, the bare branches contrast sharply with the misty background, lit by an almost imperceptible winter sun. The whole scene seems to convey a sense of tranquillity and serenity.; Net als op zijn schilderij Morgenrit langs het strand (zaal 1.18), gaf Mauve de ruiters op de rug gezien weer. In het uitgestorven bos stappen ze weg van de toeschouwer. In de aquarel steken de kale takken af tegen de mistige achtergrond, vaag verlicht door de winterzon. Uit het geheel spreekt een stemming van stilte en sereniteit.
