Description

Watercolour illustration commissioned by William Roxburgh. ROX2532.
In his 'Flora Indica', Roxburgh describes this species as a middling sized tree, native of Nepal. He also notes: 'In flowers in the botanic garden [Calcutta] in March, when the new foliage begins to appear, the former year's having fallen during the cool season, indeed all the 'Sterculias' are deciduous in Bengal.' The drawing is on laid paper watermarked 'J. WHATMAN 1808'.
