This depicts the aftermath of the assassination attempt on Louis Philippe I by Giuseppe Marco Fieschi and his co-conspirators Pierre Morey and Theodore Pepin on 28 July 1835. The trio opened fire on the king and his entourage during the annual review of the Paris National Guard, from the third floor of no.50 Boulevard du Temple using a custom-made volley gun. Eighteen people were killed in the attempt: the king sustained only a minor injury.
