Description

Hearne’s preference for dilapidated, often rural, architecture is clearly shown here. The collections of Dr.Thomas Monro and John Henderson would undoubtedly have contained watercolours by Hearne of similar subjects to this, which influenced the younger artists such as Turner and Girtin in this direction.
