Description
Condition: Good to fair; some fading and loss of fine detail; discolouration of original buff coloured paper; conservator's repairs 2 x approx. 2 cm. on right edge; Inscription: Signed W. Nicholas 1843--Lower right; Title devised by cataloguer from inscription and donor's notes. ; Mary Gibbes, known as Minnie, was born in England 16 Oct. 1817. The daughter of Col. John George Nathaniel and Elizabeth Gibbes, she accompanied her family to Australia arriving in Sydney, 1834. Mary married Terence Aubrey Murray in Sydney, 1843 and lived at Yarralumla before moving to Winderradeen [Winderadeen], 1855. Mary gave birth to 5 daughters, 2 of whom survived infancy, and 1 son, James Aubrey Gibbes Murray, Nov. 1857. She died 2 Jan. 1858.--Reference: Australian dictionary of biography; family notes. ; Mary Murray (nee Gibbes). This lady has been described by Gwendoline Wilson in her book Murray of Yarrowlumla" as believed to be Anna Maria Bunn [Terence Aubrey Murray's sister], but this is contrary to family belief. ...
