Description

A herdess is walking under her umbrella as she drives her four cows forward. ‘The soaking wet atmosphere is captured so well that one’s feet start to feel wet if one looks at the work too long,’ one critic wrote. In contrast to Mauve’s pictures of horse-riders, where the horses always move towards the horizon, the cows in his cattle paintings generally head straight at the viewer.; Een boerin heeft haar paraplu opgestoken en drijft vier koeien voor zich uit. ‘De door en door natte atmosfeer is zo goed getroffen dat men er natte voeten van krijgt als men er lang naar kijkt’, schreef een recensent. Opmerkelijk is dat in tegenstelling tot Mauves ruiterstukken, waarop de paarden naar de horizon lopen, de runderen op zijn veestukken de toeschouwer meestal tegemoet komen.
