Description

This sketch shows Carnwath Collegiate Church, Lanarkshire, and a number of adjacent buildings. A note in the bottom right-hand corner reads, 'Carnwath from the West 17 Oct. 1800'. It is one of three drawings in the Hutton Collection showing the exterior of the church. The artist's name has not been included. Carnwath is located in the Clyde Valley, on the edge of the Lang Whang Moor, thirty miles from Edinburgh and Glasgow. The village is home to a number of interesting historical landmarks, including a twelfth-century motte, a market cross, and the collegiate church, founded in the 1420s.
