Description

Double portrait of a royal bodyguard on the right and a muskateeron the left; single-page painting on an album folio. The bearded bodyguard stands, legs crossed, with eyes cast downwards while resting upon his long riffle. Small bags and a daggar hang from the sash tied around his waist. The mustakeer stands opposite, with his equally long riffle slung over his shoulder. A long sword and purse hang from his tied sash, while a feather protrudes from his hat. Inscribed. Album contains 44 paintings and drawings, mostly of Persian costumes and animals with some drawings by Kaempfer. Ink and opaque watercolour on paper. Album is bound in brown leather with gold gilt decoration. Inside covers have marbled paper.
