Description

Half-length frontal portrait of Trugernana, wife of Woreddy (Woorrady); also known as Lydgudggee & Lalla Kookh, aged 27. She is shown wearing a necklace of twisted kangaroo sinews died with red ochre.

One of 3 known watercolour originals of this subject; the others are held at the Pitt Rivers Museum, Oxford, and the Art Gallery and Museum of Tasmania, Hobart. According to the inscription with the Robinson / Franklin portrait in the Pitt River Museum, Trugernana saved the life of Mrs G. A. Robinson at Arthur River, by pulling a log across the river on which Mrs Robinson was stranded.
