Description

View across the narrow strait of the Hellespont with Constantinople on the horizon, fertile rocky shores to either side and several vessels on the water, with a square fortress near the viewer to right, windmills at the foot of the hill in the foreground and a ruin on the summit above, in the extreme right. Hand-coloured etching, extensive losses around the edges, pasted onto a backing sheet.

Inscription

Inscription largely lacking due to damage. Lettered above the image with the title in English and French '[View of] Constantinople...'; below the image with a dedication from John Rocque to 'John Hagar Esqr.' around a crest; a key and '[Chatelain?] sculp. / P. Chatelain del / Publish'd accordin[g to Act of Pa]rliament [remainder illegible]
