Description

A watercolour showing a cowherd in an alpine landscape. The young boy is shown full-length, standing on a cliff and facing left in profile. He is holding a long stick and has a horn attached to his belt. Inscribed lower right: Louise May 24/61.

Queen Victoria's children often made cards and drawings for their parents as gifts on important dates, such as this watercolour by Princess Louise for her mother's birthday on 24th May 1861.
