Description

The subject is Sims' wife Agnes, daughter of the painter John MacWhirter. She had two sons, born in 1898 and 1901, and it is not known which this depicts. Although Sims lived in northern France in 1904-5, researcher Cecilia Holmes suggests this was actually painted in Arran, Scotland. The work is inscribed "to Malcolm and Nell" - Nell was Agnes's sister Helen MacWhirter.
