Description

Watercolour of almshouse with the figure of a man in front. In the background are some large buildings. On the reverse is the pencil inscription 'Emanuel Hospital, Westminster'. The Almshouse and School were demolished in 1894. Said to have been the best Queen Anne building in Westminster.

These alm-houses were also referred to as Lady Dacre's Almhouses as they had been constructed under the will of Lady Dacre in 1601. The almshouses which were rebuilt in the reign of Queen Anne were demolished in 1894. Site is now occupied by the hotel St James' Court, Buckingham Gate.
