Caption: "Cowbridge, by the Welsh called Pont Vaen from its stone bridge The supposed Bovium of the Romans & in the neighbourhood of many castles. in former days it was more considerable & of the highest note. It then was walled & had 3 gates, one of which called the South gate & remains - it was one of the 3 market towns, which Robt Fitzhamon reserv'd for himself. Glamorganshire"
