Description

Coloured aquatint by Thomas Daniell, 1795.
The mausoleum or tomb of the emperor Akbar had been built by his son Jahangir, and was completed in 1613. Archer op. cit. "The print gives a clear idea of the manner in which the Daniells travelled during this stage of their journey when they had attached themselves to a party bound for Agra. A large encampments of tents is set up just outside the main gateway and the scene is busy with the British, their servants and bodyguard" (Archer, loc. cit.)
