Shows a general view of Wellington from Wadestown Hill above Thorndon, looking south towards the inner harbour and Mount Victoria. There are several ships in the harbour and tied up at the wharves. The foreground shows several large houses, including the Queen Margaret College building in Hobson Street, and Thomas Turnbull's house in Grant Road, the large house in the right foreground, later the Italian Embassy. The swing bridge in Hobson Street is also shown part-way along Hobson Street on the left. Katherine Mansfield's birthplace is also in the view, two houses to the left of the swing bridge. Molesworth Street is shown running in a straight line towards the Government Buildings on the right.
