Description

Subject depicts an Indian encampment on the Levis shore. A teepee is set up in the c.r. of the image; four natives and a baby are visible in the teepee. One native stands outside the teepee, to the right of a canoe. In the background there are several boats in the water and along the far shore. The far shore has several architectural structures along the shore and on the hill.
The dealer's notes on the verso of the secondary support guess that this work may be attributed to Petley or Cockburn. This watercolour is a naive version of a Cockburn subject.
