Description

Watercolour over pencil on wove paper watermarked. The High Tor is a sheer rock face, four hundred foot high, found near the village of Matlock in Derbyshire. It was a popular tourist attraction in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. Glover exhibited nine views taken in and around Matlock at the Society of Painters in Watercolours in 1814 and 1815. This watercolour commanded the very high price of £210 in 1814.
