View of the iced over Serpentine; on the centre of the ice a man drives a horse-drawn carriage, pulled by four horses, on the side of the carriage the words "Hunt's Matchless Blacking", two men in back of carriage blowing trumpets, other men on ice around carriage waving caps and cheering; in foreground to left and in background people stand on river bank watching and cheering. 1826. Lettered below image with title, followed by "On Tuesday the 17th of January 1826, Mr Henry Hunt Junr for a bet of 100 Guineas made with a Noble Lord of sporting celebrity drove his Father's Matchless Blacking Van with four blood horses upon the Ice over the Serpentine at the broadest part: he accomplished the hazardous task in the grandest style without the smallest accident.
