Description
William Fitzalan, 2nd Earl of Arundel, from his monumental effigy in Arundel Chapel, study for plate 137 of Stothard's 'The Monumental Effigies of Great Britain', published by Anna Eliza Bray, 1817-32, one of a large group of studies for this volume; whole-length male figure, seen in profile, head at right resting on a pillow and supported by an angel, wearing robes, and resting feet on a mutilated horse, also separate studies of details, including the Earl's coronet, profile of his wife's head and head-dress, and part of her necklace. 1815. Pen and grey ink and graphite, with watercolour.
