Description

Watercolour painting on paper of the Delhi Gate at Agra Fort constructed between 1565 and 1573. The painting shows the Delhi Gate, the main entrance to the Fort, flanked by the high red sandstone battlements of the Fort on either side. The gateway is shown decorated with white marble in-lay and with a domed pavilion on the roof. Above the gateway is a pink and white decorated building on which flies the Union Flag. The Delhi Gate was the formal gate of Agra Fort and has an inner gateway, the Hathi Pol (Elephant Gate). The painting is framed by a thick black line.
