Description

Watercolour of the Holy Trinity Church, St Andrews, Fife, numbered 109. This painting shows the Holy Trinity Church, which is located in the centre of St Andrews. The painting is undated. The origins of the Holy Trinity Church go back as far as 1163. The present building dates from 1412. John Knox preached in a fiery manner at this church during the Reformation, and incited a congregational mob to destroy the Cathedral in 1559. The church underwent a major renovation in 1800, which affected its original 1412 design. Another renovation reversed this in 1909.
