Description

This sketch shows Carnwath Collegiate Church. It is one of three drawings in the Hutton Collection showing the exterior of the church. The artist's name has not been included. The inn referred to in the artist's note is most probably the Wee Bush Inn. It dates from the 1750s; and was a popular resting place for travellers. Thomas, Lord Somerville founded the collegiate church in the 1420s. It was home to a provost and six prebendaries, and served as the Somerville's family mausoleum for many years.
