Description

This sketchbook, one of seven covering Cozens' trip to Italy with William Beckford, records views taken between 18 September and 19 October 1782. Note the artists squaring of the page into 64 compartments in order to facilitate enlargement into a finished watercolour. Note also the annotations on the mountain and in the sky, and the tiny pencil lines above the trees on the far right to indicate the suns rays.
