Description

This is an illustration from Robert Elwes' travelogue 'A Sketcher's Tour Round the World', published 1854. Elwes produced drawings and watercolours recording his travels in 1848-1850 and these form the models for the printed illustrations.

Wentworth Falls was first known as Weatherboard Hut, because of the slab huts built there by William Cox while the was forging the road over the Blue Mountains in 1814. It was later renamed Wentworth Falls in honour of William Charles Wentworth, one of the three explorers who crossed the mountains in 1813.
