Description

Drawing of a north view of Fortrose Cathedral, Ross-shire. It is dated October 1815, and, as not attributed to any particular artist, may be one of George Henry Hutton's own works. This is one of nine views of Fortrose Cathedral in the Hutton Collection. Fortrose Cathedral is situated in the centre of the village of Fortrose, on the south-east coast of the Black Isle north of Inverness. The Cathedral was built some time between 1214 and 1249 by Robert, Bishop of Ross, and thereafter Fortrose became the 'see', or centre, of the Roman Catholic diocese of Ross-shire.
