Description

This is a panoramic view of Kinloss Abbey, Moray and the surrounding area. A note goes on to explain that the Abbot's Lodging, the dormitory and the north wall of the Chapter House are all visible. The highest tower in the image is the south transept of this cruciform plan church: very little else of the complex remains, however, as Alexander Brodie stripped it for profit in 1650, who then sold the stone to Oliver Cromwell. David I originally founded the abbey in 1150 as a Cistercian house. David I pursued a vigorous and well-rounded religious policy, which resulted in the appearance of many monastic houses in Scotland.
